International Love Story

At some point during today's lesson wedged in between Adjektiven Deklination and Konjunktiv II our teacher asked each of us to tell the stories of how we meet our significant others.

We had it all - high school sweethearts, arranged marriages, love over the internet, star-crossed lovers (thankfully without the deaths) and a surprising (to me) number of cousins who had married - I thought that was the purview of royal families.

Our class is very formal and for many of us German is our only shared language, so getting to know each other is not so easy. These little glimpses into the lives of the people with whom I spend 20 hours per week was a delightful treat.

wow, that sounds intersting.

my class is really small and we have a dutch and two hungarians. our cultures do not have too many contrasts. that would be interesting to share a class with people from a culture that is vastly different than mine.

my first class in germany i studied with a man from saudi arabia. our german was A1 level so we unfortunately could not get to know each other so well but it would have been intersting.

I'm living in Israel, but from the US. About 90% of the people in my Hebrew language class came to Israel for love (seeing as Israelis travel so much, we inevitably met them and returned to them to the Holy Land!). It was so interesting to see women and men from Denmark to Thailand to Colombia who had all left their homes and families behind to begin a new life in Israel with their boyfriends.

We recently got together and told our stories in a series called "Destination: Love." You can view it here: www.youtube.com/user/cosmiclovetv

Best of luck!
